Morne & Megan Botha

They say that it is a small world, but who would’ve thought that the ocean would be the mastermind of our love story. Being in the yachting industry you will hear many times that it is almost impossible to find your life partner out at sea, well, for us it was like meeting up with an old friend. My husband and I are both from South Africa but met for the first time at a rugby game in Monaco. I remember seeing this green-eyed, long-haired man with the biggest smile and instantly felt butterflies, and as the conversation went on, we realised how many mutual friends we have and how much we have in common but once the game finished, we had to go our separate ways and onto our separate boats. Fast forward a year my career took a turn and I had to find a new yacht to work on, I sent out my CV and just like that the universe let our paths cross again and we ended up working on the same yacht. What happened next was inevitable. The man of my dreams went down on one knee unexpectedly while in isolation in Tahiti. And so, the “wedding talk” began and with returning to SA for our holiday our first item on the check list was looking at our number one venue option in the little town of Robertson. We went there with hopes to at least secure this fairytale venue for some time in the future as we knew how popular the Wine Estate was – that “some time in the future” turned out to be in 2 weeks thanks to an unexpected cancellation. As yachties you learn the skill of quick decision making, but this was a no brainer. With that our holiday and our initial proposed wedding date of September 2021, turned into 10 days of an intense wedding planning exercise. Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic did not make this easy for us. With my mom, sister and I as my own little wedding planning team we immediately started with the phone calls, appointments, dress searching, Pinterest boards and invitations. And just like that I was walking down the aisle in the most beautiful dress, looking over the most gorgeous vineyard with my closest friends and family from all over SA around me. With everyone staying at the venue for the weekend it truly made all the stresses, arguments, sweat and tears worth it. I got to end the night with the people I love most around me, under a sky full of stars and with endless fairy lights (there always has to be fairy lights). We made what we thought was impossible, possible, and looking back I wouldn’t have changed anything for the world even if we did have months to arrange it. This majestic wedding day ticked all of our boxes from the flowers to the wine on the tables. I hope that this can show all the ladies that anything is possible and to learn to find the perfect in the imperfections.
