STORIE:
If we had to choose one word to describe our wedding, it would be “heart.” From Stephan’s proposal in the Cape Winelands—where we first met—to celebrating on the family farm where Timony grew up, every detail was infused with meaning and love. Over six months of planning, every decision reflected the truest version of who we are.
The day began with an intimate breakfast where we exchanged handwritten letters, a quiet moment before the excitement unfolded. Timony got ready with her sisters and mothers, while Stephan and his groomsmen shared a whiskey against the breathtaking backdrop of the Karoo mountains.
Despite the 40°C heat and gusty wind, when the moment arrived, nothing else mattered except knowing who was waiting at the end of the aisle. Timony arrived in a classic Ford and was escorted down the aisle, hand in hand, by both her dad and stepdad—a moment filled with love and significance. Seeing each other for the first time was pure happiness! A cherished memory was the worship hymn sung by Timony’s siblings, accompanied by her “little” brother and sister on violin and cello. Our mothers, as ring bearers, symbolized the deep love and support they have carried for us throughout our lives. After exchanging vows and sealing them with a victorious kiss, we cut the cake in honor of another special celebration—Stephan’s grandmother’s 80th birthday!
As the golden Karoo sunset cast its glow over our photoshoot, we knew we were capturing memories we’d cherish forever. Returning to the reception, we skipped the traditional grand entrance; instead, we stood at the doorway, hand in hand as husband and wife, personally welcoming each guest. Each of our parents found a handwritten letter on their place setting, and every guest received a personalized note on the back of their name card.
Under a canopy of twinkling lights, fragrant flowers, and the joyful hum of laughter, we dined, danced, and celebrated well into the early hours of the morning. It was perfect.
Looking back, no amount of dreaming, Pinterest boards, romcoms, or novels could have truly captured the depth of emotion we felt that day. In the end, it was more real, more genuine, more beloved, and more “ours” than we ever could have imagined.
